In the early 1990s, Shar-Kare, a family-owned pet and garden supply store, began expanding from its original location on Wellington Road in Nanaimo. Founded by Bill and Sherron in 1986, Shar-Kare quickly gained a reputation for quality products and personalized service, all aimed at benefiting their customers.

Expansion Begins

In 1992, Shar-Kare opened its second store in South Nanaimo, followed by new locations in Campbell River, Ladysmith, and Port Alberni over the next few years.Each store was strategically placed to serve a wider community, making it more convenient for customers to access their high-quality pet supplies, animal feed, and gardening essentials.

Parksville Distribution Center

To support their expanding network, Shar-Kare built a distribution center in Parksville in 1998. This centralized hub streamlined inventory management and ensured that all stores were well-stocked, allowing the company to maintain high standards of product availability and customer service. The distribution center also allowed Shar-Kare to buy in bulk, resulting in lower prices that were passed on to the customers.
